They are different to our normal concept of a book as they were usually (but not always) unbound and the loose pages protected in a slipcase. Prized by art patrons bound copies were frequently broken up to extract the prints for individual framing and `boudoir` display, and publishers soon met the market demand by producing loose copies of the artists` work.
